The following basic principles laid down by the Board of Directors ensure that legislatory requirements are fulfilled and that there are measures for continuous reduction of effects on the environment: • It is our objective to reconcile ecological and economic principles in the manufacture and further processing   of our products. Since the products can be recycled and have a long life, they have become increasingly   environmentally friendly in the course of the development of steel manufacturing technology. Furthermore,   we ensure that the various qualities of steel do not have any negative effects on the environment when they are   used in their respective fields by our customers. • Through regular assessment of our Environmental Management System, our efforts are directed towards   continually minimizing any effects on the environment (such as exploitation of resources, dust and noise   emission, amount of waste produced). When new production processes are introduced or new facilities built,   the effects on the environment are calculated beforehand and reduced to a minimum. It is a matter of course for   us to take responsibility into our own hands and to adhere to environmental legislation in our activities in this   respect. • Training courses and further training measures train and motivate our employees to carry out their tasks in a   responsible way, in accordance with our environmental policies. • We are committed to open, factual and comprehensive information and communication with all our employees,   customers, authorities and the interested public with regard to the environmental effects of our facilities and   products. • We demand that our suppliers adhere to national and international environmental protection laws and that they   continually improve their environmental protection standards.
