Start of training: Into the future with Saarstahl and Dillinger
Full of anticipation, 128 trainees started their future careers today at Dillinger and Saarstahl. This is always a special day for the companies as well: Dillinger and Saarstahl have for many years relied on having a strong pool of young talent of their own and have offered their young trainees state-of-the-art training at the highest technical level. The steelmaking partners are maintaining this program even under currently difficult economic circumstances and are continuing training at a consistently high level.

Dr. Stefan Kaufmann, Innovation Commissioner for Green Hydrogen at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), visited the Dillingen site today together with Ammar Alkassar, Saarland’s representative for innovation and strategy (Saarland State Chancellery), and Markus Uhl, a member of the Bundestag, to learn about the next important steps for the steel partners in Saarland on their way to carbon-neutral steel production.

Saarstahl’s sustainability efforts again earn gold in 2021
The strong and long-standing commitment of Saarstahl to corporate social responsibility (CSR) was again rated worthy of a gold medal in 2021 by EcoVadis, an international provider of sustainability ratings. Saarstahl had already been honored with a gold rating in 2020. This year the company scored 72 points, placing the Saarland steel company among the top three percent of companies in its industry category. The CSR rating by EcoVadis confirms that responsible action and sustainable management are central components of Saarstahl's corporate policy.

Every year, the fact sheet supplements the sustainability report published in 2019 by Dillinger, Saarstahl and SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar. With this voluntary report, the companies of the SHS Group document their responsibility in the areas of economy, ecology and society. The sustainability report is based on the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Sustainability, environmentally conscious behavior and conserving resources are important parts of the corporate culture of the SHS Group: Dillinger, Saarstahl and SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar take their responsibility towards the climate and environment seriously.

First joint sustainability report published
SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar, Saarstahl and Dillinger have published their first joint sustainability report. With this voluntary report, the companies of the SHS Group have documented their responsibility to economic, environmental and societal interests. The report is based on the GRI standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Saarstahl AG invests 17 million euros in the Homburg site of its Saar-Blankstahl subsidiary
A pioneering construction site at the Saarstahl subsidiary in Homburg: work is now underway to expand the heat treatment capacity at Saar-Blankstahl. With the decision taken by the Supervisory Board at the end of 2018 to expand the annealing capacity of its subsidiary, Saarstahl AG is responding to an expected increase in worldwide demand for heat-treated bar material and to demand for higher-quality steels, which also play an important role in electric mobility. The company is investing 17 million euros in this project.

Saarstahl AG and Mapudo GmbH are presenting themselves together for the first time at the “Wire”
At the specialist trade fair “Wire”, which starts in Düsseldorf on April 16th, Saarstahl AG, leader in the manufacture of wire and bar steel, will present itself for the first time together with its new partner Mapudo GmbH, an independent online platform for the purchase and sale of steel and NE metals. SHS Ventures, the venture capital company of the Saarland’s steel industry, acquired a share in Mapudo GmbH in 2016.

Tim Hartmann is appointed as the new Chairman of the Management Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dillinger and Saarstahl – Further personnel-related decisions have been taken
Following the announcement of Dr. Michael Müller (63) and Fred Metzken (62) at the beginning of February that they are going to withdraw from the operative business as of 31 August 2018, the committees of the Supervisory Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar GmbH & Co KGaA (SHS), Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger), DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG (DHS) and Saarstahl AG held consultations regarding the succession and passed the corresponding resolutions in their respective meetings on 8th and 9th March. At SHS level, Tim Hartmann (49) was appointed as Chairman of the Management Board of SHS - Stahl-Holding-Saar with effect from 1 September 2018 for a period of 5 years. Mr Hartmann will also take on responsibility for Finance. Furthermore, it was resolved to reappoint Dr. Bernd Münnich and Peter Schweda as Members of the Management Board with effect from 1 January 2019.
