Saarstahl receives an award from a Japanese customer for the first time

2016年06月09日

Japanese automotive supplier DENSO has awarded Saarstahl AG with its “Regional Cooperation Award” for its excellent product quality and cooperation. Jean-Paul Timmerman, Head of Sales Wire Rod, accepted the award at the “DENSO Suppliers Convention” in Nagoya, Japan.

“This award gives Saarstahl a chance to strengthen its relationship with DENSO and examine the possibilities for a technical cooperation in the future”, Timmerman said.

Saarstahl delivers the primary material for a cold formed component used in alternators. With approximately 500 tonnes of wire rod a month from the Neunkirchen plant, Saarstahl is a large supplier of this product to their Knoxville, Tennessee location. DENSO produces around 500,000 alternators a month and supplies leading automotive manufactures worldwide.

For Saarstahl, it is the first award from a Japanese customer. Dr Klaus Richter, Chief Sales Officer, commented: “We are delighted to receive this recognition which opens up further interesting perspectives for us as a supplier to the Japanese automotive supplier industry”. This industry is increasing manufacturing in Eastern Europe and so it offers a promising sales market for high quality Saarstahl products that is virtually “on our doorstep”. Commenting on the Saarstahl strategy, Dr Richter explained, “We are already being selected – after Japanese suppliers – as a second and third supplier for cold heading grades, spring steel, free cutting steels and tyre cord and we would like to further extend this position”.

The DENSO Corporation is a global automotive supplier, in particular for automotive electronics and automotive mechatronics. With around 146,000 employees at 188 subsidiaries worldwide of which 35 are located in Europe, the company is one of the largest Japanese groups and achieved a turnover converted into 33.4 billion euros for the financial year 2015.
