Saarschmiede GmbH Freiformschmiede named Partner of the Year by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD.

Danny van der Hout, Managing Director of Saarschmiede GmbH Freiformschmiede, accepted the award on March 12 from a delegation from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, LTD. (MHI).

MHI, headquartered in Takasago, Japan, is one of the world’s leading suppliers of gas turbine combined cycle power plants. MHI and Saarschmiede, a subsidiary of Saarstahl AG, have been successfully working together for more than 20 years, and a framework agreement for supplying forged gas turbine parts was concluded in 2022. MHI has now recognized Saarschmiede for its outstanding cooperation and performance.

“With this award we want to express our thanks and appreciation for the remarkable commitment and outstanding efforts in supplying rotor parts for our gas turbines,” said Hiroshi Kuroda, Procurement Director, when presenting the award. “Working together with Saarschmiede has enabled us to further improve customer satisfaction related to quality and delivery reliability.”

Due to growing global demand for energy, investment in new gas-fired power plants is also on the rise. MHI is therefore experiencing strong demand for high-efficiency gas turbines. On the way to a more climate-friendly future through decarbonization and cutting carbon emissions, MHI is relying on suppliers able to implement and continuously optimize technological requirements and innovative developments as part of its Mission Net Zero. The aim is to best meet a wide range of customer needs with targeted solutions and to strengthen the company’s leading market position.

We support our partners both with the production of highly advanced gas turbine components and with the approval process for innovative materials that meet the requirements of future high-efficiency gas turbines,” Danny van der Hout said upon accepting the award. “Efficiency can be further improved, and carbon emissions more sharply reduced, in the interest of a more climate-friendly future.”

The MHI management delegation presented the award during their visit to Saarschmiede on March 12 and 13. The agenda included the agreement of a follow-up framework contract, plant tours, company presentations, and personal dialogue on current topics and projects that touch on the successful business relationship between MHI and Saarschmiede. Both partners have confirmed the continuation of their long-standing partnership.
